World Cup Solden Live

Alpine Skiing's big event, the World Cup Solden Live will be held October 24^th and 25^th in the Otz Valley in Tyrol and the snow is looking sweet for this awesome event. Organizers weren't sure that they were going to be able to hold the even t after massive heatwaves in August, but the snow has fallen and the conditions are perfect to hold the World Cup. In 2006 they actually did have to cancel the race, because of a long summer, and resulting from that cancellation, organizers installed 24 snow cannons on the mountain circuit to prevent such an occurrence from happening again. According to the people at the Central Agency for Meteorology and Geodynamics the temperatures are perfect for the race to continue as schedules, between six and fifteen degrees below zero. The snow cannons are being put to use, but the temperature is keeping it there.

One skiier who will be missing from the race roster and will be sorely missed is the legendary Hermann Maier, who bore the title The Herminator. The skiier had suffered from a bike accident eight years ago that was thought to have put him out of racing, but he overcame the odds and went on to win the Overall and Super-G titles in the 2004 competition.
