20th European Athletics Championships Live

The 2010 20th European Athletics Championships will be held in Barcelona between July 27^th to August 1^st. The European Athletics Championships is the biggest event in the European Athletics’ competition programme.  A record 1,368 athletes from 50 countries are entered for this year's event in Barcelona. The event is supported by European Athletics’ long-standing international partners SPAR, OMEGA, EPSON, LE GRUYÈRE and EUROVISION, along with a number of national partners and suppliers. Various athletic events, like IAAF GP, Golden League, Marathons and many more are played in this tournament.

Curiously, despite winning medals at every other major event on the athletics calendar, including still being the only female Spanish athlete to win an Olympic medal, Maria Vasco has not yet got a medal in her three appearances at the European Athletics Championships, her best result being fifth in 1988 when the women's Walk was over 10km. Spanish walker Maria Vasco, seen here with Barni the mascot of the 20^th European Athletics Championships, is hopeful that her European dreams would be fulfilled in Barcelona next month.
