It will be carried from July 10 to 18, 2010 in Nottingham England. In April 1987 a new chapter in the history of women’s hockey was spread out as the Council of the International Hockey Federation decided to recognise the women’s hockey tournament being organised in Amstelveen for that summer as the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy.

The Champions Trophy is the largest annual tournament in world hockey with 6 of the world’s top hockey playing nations competing every year. For the beginning time ever, the event will be held in England in 2010, giving sports fans in this country the complete opportunity to see world class international hockey live and up close. From 10-18 July 2010 the Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy will be held in Nottingham and will see England’s women ranked 6th in the world taking on the Netherlands 1st, Argentina 2nd, China 3rd, Germany 4th and New Zealand 9th in six exciting matches over nine days. Running beside the Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy, Women, Nottingham 2010 will be a 4 nations men’s test series involving Great Britain, Germany, Japan and New Zealand. For the GB men the tournament will provide an early opportunity to impress the coaches and stake a claim for London 2012.

Australia is the most victorious side, becoming champions on 6 occasions, while completing in the medals a further 6 times. The Netherlands has 5 triumphs in the Champions Trophy, along with another 10 Silver and Bronze medals. In 2009 Argentina beat Australia 4-3 on penalty strokes to win their third title, with the Netherlands catching the Bronze after a 5-2 win over Germany. England returned to the Champions Trophy for the first time in six years, with a young side who came sixth, despite some promising early results.Over the years the Women’s Champions Trophy has been held in Argentina, Australia, Germany, Macau and the Netherlands, with 2010 being the first time the tournament will have been hosted by England.
