The FIVB Klagenfurt Grand Slam 2009 will take place July 27th through August 1st, for a $600,000 purse for an A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam presented by Volksbank. This Klagenfurt stop, the 13th this season, will be the last SWATCH FIVB World Tour Grand Slam, the fifth of the majors for international beach volleyball tourneys. Last year was an exciting event because Dmitri Barsouk and Igor Kolodinsky took the first SWATCH Gold Medal for Russia, and Brazil stood proud as Shelda Bede and Ana Paula Connelly accepted their second FIVB Grand Slam title in a row this year.

More Brazilians made marks as Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos took the 2008 Klagenfurt, claiming their fifth straight medal from Austria, being awarded gold in the past, in both 2004 and 2007, and taking second place in 2005 and 2006. The Brazilian Men's Teams are responsible for a grand total of eight golds from Klagenfurt. For Austrian men's, Ze Marco De Melo, Jose Loiola, Nikolas Berger and Clemens Doppler took the highest for Austria, in 97, 98, 99 and 2000 respectively. For the women, it was Misty May-Treanor and Kerry Walsh, from America. The girls are champions in the Olympic Games and all over the world, and have taken home four out of the last eight trophies from Klagenfurt.

Top ranked on the list for the main draw is Brazil's Juliana Larissa, who has 2820 points, just 20 ahead of her closest competitor, another Brazilian named Antonelli Talita. American Kessy Ross is in third with nearly 2700 points, while Shelda Ana Paula, yet another Brazilian, in fourth. Fifth place sees Youngs Branagh from the U.S. with 40 points shy of 2,000.
