The tournament admitted seven competitions, namely, Men's single, double and team, Women's single, double and team, as well as the mixed double. For 2009 a European Mixed Double Championships has been held separately from the other competitions.

The European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) are the governing body for table tennis in Europe.
