ITTF Japan Open Live

Three players begin the table tennis action on Thursday, as the ITTF Japan Open comes to you Wakayama. These aren't just any players, but are Kenta Matsudaira and Seiya Kishikawa from Japan and Germany's Patrick Baum, the highest ranked players in the world. Today was the first day of the event, and all three of these players finished first in their respective classes. This automatically qualifies them for the main draw. The rest of the order of merit list played as well today, but the only two players to move forward were Germany's Torben Wosik and Hidetoshi Oya from Japan.

Here's a recap of some of today's action. Japan's fourteen year old prodigy struck again, beating Germany's Lars Hielscher. Taku Takakiwa was beaten by Lee Sang Su, also securing a second win against Pang Xue Jr. from Singapore. Poland's Jakun Kosowski was the seventh ranked player but he also suffered a loss today, but to his credit the margin was extremely narrow, as he played Japan's Masato Shiono, who came out as the group winner. All in all, it was Japan who shined today in the tournament, gathering most of the wins and by the widest margins.
