The FIVB World Grand Prix is a women's volleyball tournament that will take place from July 31st to August 23rd, 2009. There are a total of twelve qualifying countries that will be playing in this tournament, including European countries Poland, The Netherlands, Russia and Germany. Countries from Asia include China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand, plus Brazil, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic and The United States, all located in the Americas. The finals will happen in Tokyo, Japan.

Last year the tournament was played in Yokohama, Japan from June 20th to July 12th. Countries that qualified were Cuba, Brazil, The Dominican Republic, and the U.S. which were named as qualifiers after the Women's Pan-Am Cup in Colima Mexico. China, Japan, Thailand, Kazakhstan. And Germany also qualified for Asia, while Turkey, Italy and Poland qualified at the European Qualifier in Turkey.
In the final round, held at Yokohama Arena in Japan, the first day saw Brazil beat the United States, and China lose to Italy, while Cuba beat out Japan in their own country. The next day was July 10th, and it ended with Cuba, Brazil and the United States coming out ahead. On the 11th, Brazil took the trophy from China, Cuba won over the U.S and Japan beat Italy, making Brazil come out way ahead with 3 wins in three days.
Day four had Brazil once again claiming victory over Cuba, Italy beating the United States, and China taking the trophy from the hands of Japan. Day five had Brazil with their fifth win, putting them out ahead with a total of 10 points. This year's tournament is July 31st to August 23rd and the finals will take place in the capital city of Tokyo.
