Heineken Cup Rugby Live

The Heineken Cup happens every year for the leading club, region and provincial teams from each of the IRB nations in the countries of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and France. This is the high level competition of the IRB Events, with the lower level being the European Challenge Cup. This tournament has been going on since 1995 and is sponsored by the Dutch Brewer Heineken International. All told, 24 teams play in the pool stage, split up into six different pools of four teams each. The Heineken is played from October to May of each year and after the pool stage comes the knockout phase of the competition. The Heineken is open to Magners League Clubs, Guinness Premiership clubs, Super 10 and Top 14, with the teams that don't qualify participating in the European Challenge Cup. Six teams come from England and six from France. Ireland and Wales both provide three teams selected from Magners League Teams and Italy puts in two teams from the Super 10 Championships.

Leinster won the 2008-2009 competition, against Leicester Tigers who lost by three points, while the previous years tournament was won by Ireland's Munster the final score again being within three points against Toulouse.
