The Rugby World Cup is an International Rugby Board event and has been taking place since 1987, being the sport's premier international competition. The competitors are made of the men's national teams and the first tournament was hosted by Australia and New Zealand, now taking place every four years with millions looking forward to it when it comes around, being one of the world's largest international sporting competitions. Australia is the team with the most trophies, having won them in 1991 and 1999 and being the runner up in 2003. South Africa holds the second place, also with two victories, in 1995 and 2007, and England has one win and two runner-up titles. France, Wales Argentina and Scotland have not yet won a final The winners of this prestigious tournament are awarded the William Webb Ellis Cup, the man who reportedly invented the game of Rugby. The current qualification method is for twenty nations to compete over a month with two stages, both a group and knockout stage. Four pools are created and each pool has five nations each in it.

There have been five competitions since the inaugural one in 1987, 1991 seeing Australia beating England 12-6, and South Africa hosting and winning against New Zealand in 1995. The 1999 tournament final was between Australia and France and Australia took the trophy with a final of 35-12. 2003 was won by Australia again against England with the score ending 20-17. The most recent event was the 2007 final, won by South Africa against England 15-6. The next World Cup will take place in New Zealand in 2011.
