Wasps Not In Trouble For Abandoning Game

Francis BaronThe Wasps will not be receiving consequences for not playing the game against Sale back at the end of November. This was supposed to be a Guinness Premiership match at Edgeley Park but they did not play because of water on the pitch. The ref and the other team both called it playable, but the Wasps did not want to take the chance. A hearing was held on Monday and the verdict was that the charges against the Wasps were to be dismissed because of no proof. There is supposed to be a written statement within 48 hours of the hearing end to outline the full reasons.

The Sale Sharks may take action themselves after the judgement and reasons for it comes out on paper. Their CEO called it a shock to fans that were there for the game that night and a extremely disappointing decision. On the other hand, the Wasps said that they were delighted by the decision of the Panel. They have a game coming up on Saturday, held at Adams Park against Bayonne and this decision gives them a chance to concentrate on that as they play in the European Challenge Cup. According to Francis Baron, the game was made to look bad because of the decision by the London Wasps.

However, the decision comes as a surprise to some as this is the third season that the Wasps have postponed a game. The game was scheduled to have its kickoff at 1930 GMT, and the referee, David Rose, called the pitch fit for a game at 1945. However, the Wasps had left the field fifteen minutes earlier. Many people were unhappy with the decision made by the London Wasps, but they won out in the long run. Officials said that this decision hurt the image of the game, and they had received quite a bit of mail from the incident.
